Fitness Friday

Friday, March 24, 2017

Happy Friday everyone! Summer is coming and it’s almost time to start wearing bikinis! In preparation, I thought I would share with you guys my latest fitness favorites for today’s post. In a previous post, I shared with you guys how my routine has changed since being in college, you can read that here

I recently started wearing my Fitbit again and it’s so much fun! It always gives me that extra push to want to hit my steps and go a longer route. I have an older Fitbit (fitbit flex) so it only tells me my daily steps, calories, miles, and active minutes. But that’s all I really need it for anyways. Because I live on campus I do a lot of walking when I’m going to my classes, so on average I hit about 12,000 steps a day. I also always include 30 minutes of some cardio everyday in addition to weight lifting. I’m definitely not somebody who loves running, so you’ll never see me spending the whole 30 minutes doing that! Some of my favorites are inclined fast walking, HIIT intervals of sprinting/jogging/walking, and the arc trainer.

As for weight lifting, Monday through Friday I switch off between upper and lower body. For upper, I do shoulders and back one day and biceps and triceps the next. Every lower body day I usually have a certain focus, but incorporate my quads, glutes, and calves. I always lift before my 30 min of cardio and usually spend about 35 minutes lifting. I always finish off with a quick ab circuit as well! Lately, I’ve been doing a full body circuit on Saturdays because I’m usually have more time than weekdays. I’ve tried lots of different ways of organizing my days for lifting, and so far this has been most effective. I am in no way a fitness expert, but this is just what has worked for me!

When I’m home from school, I always try to hit one of my favorite fitness classes whenever I can. I’ve mentioned before how I’ve tried barre, spin, Crossfit, and hot yoga and I truly love them all! I tried a spin class this week at a new local studio and it was a lot different than what I was used to. My next goal is to try kickboxing soon, I’ve heard great things!

  1. I must admit that due to health reasons I'm not very fit, but I do enjoy walking. Earlier this week I went to London for a few days and ended up doing 20,000 steps a day... and I'm paying for it now! :)

  3. I've just started focusing on different parts of my body this month at the gym... I'm working on legs and upper body. I love the results that I'm seeing so that motivates me to continue on with this journey. I've never tried any of the spin classes and so forth, but I've tried the hot yoga, and hot it was. By the way, I love a great pair of bold colored tennis shoes to wear when I'm working out. These are a nice pair. Thanks for sharing!

  5. maaan! i feel like i'm the only one not on a fitbit train. good for you for staying fit throughout your undergrad, because i certainly didn't! that's probably why i finished in 5 years, oooops. nikes frees are the best trainers! have you tried adidas ultra boosts? my husband is a big "shoe guy" and he collects all those stupid expensive sneakers that just sit in our closet taking up space -- but he bought me some ultra boosts and they're incredibly cute and comfy!
